Droopy eyelids, crow’s feet and tiredness under the eyes are common aging signs in the eye area. To correct these problems, blepharoplasty is a plastic surgery that can smooth this condition, rejuvenating the face and improving the patient’s self-esteem and well-being.
Blepharoplasty means an eyelid lifting procedure, in which the surgeon eliminates fat deposits and softens the natural droopy or sagging eyelids resulting from aging. Droopy upper eyelids result from excess skin sagging and lower eyelids become swollen, bags develop with age due to fat prolapse under the eyes. These changes often contribute to a more aged appearance.
The Physician marks all individual eyelid lines and wrinkles related to the upper eyelid to keep the incisions as invisible as possible along the natural folds. The incision is made and a precise amount of excess fat, muscle and loose skin that contribute to the problem is removed.
In the lower section, the incision is made in a discreet place, just a few millimeters below the lash line and along the folds of the lower eyelid. Once again, a precise amount of skin, fat and muscle is precisely removed. Extremely thin sutures then meticulously close the incisions, thus minimizing the visibility of any scars.
Main Recommendations
The patient must be in good physical health and align emotional expectations with the surgeon before being undergoing a blepharoplasty. Besides undergoing medical evaluation, the patient will likely undergo laboratory blood exams.
Anticoagulant drugs should not be used before the surgery. Drinks and cigarettes should also be out of the patient’s routine 8 hours before the surgery. The medical procedures require patient’s fasting.
Care
After surgery, the operated region will likely be sensitive and slightly swollen. Thus, the rest time ranges between a week and a month. Extra care must be taken to ensure safe healing and adequate recovery during this period.
We recommend you pay careful attention to these tips:
- Avoid exposure to sun, wind, and cold;
- Avoid scratching your eyes;
- Do not lie on your side;
- Apply compresses using saline solution;
- Sleep with elevated head;
- If you have any questions, schedule a return visit to the Physician;
